This work was a departure from my usual two-dimensional paper cuts. I wanted to have the freedom to scale a work so that it could surround the view and invite exploration.

Carbondale Arts presented "Where The Light Gets In”, an art installation by Vallee Noone, with an opening reception to the public at the R2 Gallery in The Launchpad in Carbondale on Friday, Oct. 12, from 6p.m. to 8p.m. A special preview for gallery patrons and Carbondale Arts members took place at 5:30pm.

Built especially for the R2 Gallery at The Launchpad, "Where the Light Gets In" was a full-scale immersive installation.  This cave-like piece invited and depended on the viewer to enter and interact. Visitors were surrounded by dark cave walls as they explored, investigating cracks of light and finding hidden elements that expanded the viewers' perception of the space.

Inspired by a dream, this piece dealt with the sometimes maddening restrictions of human perception. One is only able to see what is directly in front of their eyes and they must use optimism and memory to create a fuller understanding of the world as they experience it.

“Where The Light Gets In” opened the same evening as “The Near Distance”, featuring Kirk Robinson. Both shows ran through November 6.
