Current Exhibition
subject/matr/mother
curated by Shawna Miller
Carbondale Arts presents a new group exhibition opening Friday, April 11, 2025 with the opening reception taking place from 5-7pm and an artist talk moderated by Carbondale Arts Executive Director Jamie Abbott beginning at 5:30pm.
subject/matr/mother is a group exhibition including featured artists Mya Cluff, Courtney Dudley, Darla Jackson, Shawna Miller (curator) + LUCIA, Erin Morrison, and Maria Teicher. “Matr” is the Latin root for material, matter, and maternal. The seven female artists in this show create work that centers the complexity of the maternal experience. The curation aims to celebrate the link between “woman” and “mother,” while interrogating the way we associate them as one-and-the-same, or a preordained linear destiny.
A special virtual public panel discussion with all 7 artists will be announced soon. Save the date: Friday May 2, at 10am(mountain time). More info TBA.
subject/matr/mother will be on display each weekday (10am-5pm) at our gallery space located inside The Launchpad (76 S 4th Street) through May 15, 2025

About the Carbondale Arts Gallery
Exhibitions by Justin Squier, Brian Chen, Gabby Gawreluk, 2023
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Carbondale Arts Gallery is an exhibition space dedicated to amplifying and nurturing diverse artistic voices that engage and stimulate our community.
VISION STATEMENTS:
• The Carbondale Arts gallery strives to provide a platform for creatives in order to serve and enrich the Roaring Fork Valley community. Though exhibiting local artists is a priority, we recognize the value in cultivating connections with regional and national-based artists as well.
• We appreciate the innate capacity and inherent ability of art to naturally elicit deeper conversations, something we value highly and encourage featured artists of the Carbondale Arts Gallery to consider.
• We acknowledge that an exhibition may be determined “successful” in a variety of ways (the sale-ability of artwork is only one), and Carbondale Arts prioritizes community engagement and creative risk taking.
• Because there are few spaces within the Roaring Fork Valley in which to showcase artwork, we consider the Carbondale Arts Gallery a unique opportunity for emerging and established creatives alike to express themselves through a variety of concepts and media.
Upcoming Exhibitions
Carbondale Arts presents a dynamic range of exhibitions throughout the year.
Exhibition proposals for our 2026 calendar year are now open (see button below). Applications are due May 1, 2025. Email brian@carbondalearts.com with questions.
Past Exhibitions
Carbondale Arts hosts over 10 art exhibitions every year. And while you may have missed them in the gallery, you can explore a plethora of local, regional and national artists right here.
Exhibition Resources
We have launched a “Know Your Artist, Know Your Art” campaign, as Carbondale Arts works to build relationships between artists and patrons. Inspired by the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model of investing in local food, this Community Supported Art movement promotes the investment of local artists making a living in and around Carbondale Creative District, where Carbondale Arts makes its home.
There is a deep connection that happens when you purchase a piece of art, and getting to know the artist makes that connection even deeper. Find some art you love and dive in.
