Carbondale Arts presented “Analog Nature” a 2-person exhibition by artists Rob Borchardt and Robert G. Burch at the Carbondale Arts Gallery on display May 24 through June 26, 2024. The opening reception took place on First Friday, June 7, from 5-7pm at The Launchpad, with an artist talk at 5:30pm.
“Xerocks & Potholes” a solo show featuring works by artist Lindsay Jones ran concurrently (May 24 - June 26) in the second gallery space.
“Analog Nature” combined the works of Rob Borchardt and Robert G. Burch . Borchardt is a highly tuned professional with metal and fabrication. Burch has been working with glass for 16 years and had his start in a shop here in Carbondale, often blowing glass into metal forms. This exhibition showcased 30 years of craftsmanship largely fostered in the Roaring Fork Valley.

Robert G. Burch, glass blower and metal fabricator (Carbondale, CO)
I’m currently based between Colorado and North Carolina. My relationship to creativity began with Legos. Skateboarding taught me how to relate to the world through the artistic voices I admired. I was captivated by the excitement of glass work and began apprenticing in a factory setting around age 16. I attended Pilchuck Glass School shortly before making the jump to the mecca of glass working: Seattle, Washington. It was there that I had the honor of working with the renowned artist Martin Blank. In the span of five years, I absorbed many aspects of the art making process, including shipping, metal fabrication, and cold working. Subsequently, our team collaborated on the color design team for Chihuly Inc.
I continue to make and exhibit my work at a high level but as the years roll by, I’ve grown to search for other mediums of expression. I built a tiny house, retrofitted several motorcycles, worked as a LED Tech, print model, built a coffee shop in a gondola and the list goes on. I needed to articulate my ideas more clearly with the help of design, typography, video and technology. In 2019, I enrolled at School of Visual Arts and earned my BFA in Design. It’s really sharpened up my creative voice. In 2024, I was a contestant on the Blown Away Season 4. The rest is simply folklore.
