About “Where the Wild Things Live” by Kirstie Steiner:

The environment is a product of us: man made commodities intertwined with nature creating change on earth, but not a healthier one. Animals make their homes in shoes, displaced boxes, tires in the ocean, even their beds are made out of plastic threads, old clothes, and wire. How much longer can wildlife sustain this?

From the artist:

As a child, I held a profound appreciation for art classes, which were my favorite part of the school curriculum. Recognizing the societal expectation to pursue a "real" profession, I opted to study commercial art. During my adolescence, my passion for painting flourished, particularly inspired by my experiences of scuba diving with my father. I began to create artworks from memory and his photographs, captivated by the sensation of gliding among vibrant marine life; I aspired to be a part of that enchanting world.

Kirstie Steiner, mixed media artist, Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Hi there! I’m Kirstie Steiner, a passionate artist who loves to explore the world of creativity through a variety of mediums. From plaster and air-dry clay to epoxy clay, paints, and even found objects, I find joy in blending materials to bring my visions to life.

My artistic journey began in the pre-computer era when I honed my skills in commercial art. I developed a deep love for airbrush painting, along with oil and acrylic, and earned my associate degree in commercial art from Colorado Mountain College, followed by an art degree from the Rocky Mountain School of Arts. Over the years, I’ve showcased my paintings locally, created murals, and even completed an installation at the Loveland Art Museum.

In 2007, I took a leap into a new adventure by purchasing a dilapidated apple orchard. It was a labor of love, and transforming it into a vibrant organic heirloom orchard allowed me to cultivate not just apples, but a deeper connection to nature and my art. Today, the orchard thrives, offering a variety of apples, CBD products, and fresh vegetables.

My artistic journey is ever-evolving, and I love experimenting with everything from bronze to sewing classes. Each new experience shapes my mixed-media sculptures, which reflect my lifelong dedication to art. I’m excited to share this journey with you and inspire others to embrace their own creativity!
