What is the best part of being creative in Carbondale?

I’m a mixed media artist living and working in Carbondale. I think our town is unique because it is an incubator for creative arts. For example, I work out of my studio at SAW (Studio For Arts + Works) where you can find 26 artists from our community. I get a lot of inspiration and energy from being part of a place like SAW.

What motivates or inspires you and your work?

I am fascinated by textures existing on plants, organisms and rocks. Starting with a photograph, I distort the familiarity of natural subjects putting emphasis on texture. I like creating images that your mind must explore to make sense of. I use paints and other mediums to build texture and depth, and to add saturated color. With paint, I can communicate the feelings the subject evokes in me and what exists, or could exist, outside of the frame of the photograph. Painting is my way to explore the natural world.

Where can we see your work?

You can see my work in my studio at SAW (Studio For Arts + Works) at 525 Buggy Circle in Carbondale or on my website at www.artbymilarossi.com

What projects are coming up?

My art will be on display and for sale at Bonfire Coffee this summer in July and August at 433 Main Street in Carbondale. Stop by and check it out!
