Sally Nicholson Exhibiting at Bonfire Coffee through October 2022
Carbondale Arts partners with Bonfire Coffee in Carbondale to feature new artists every 2 months. Now through October 2022, Roaring Fork Valley artist Sally Nicholson exhibits her paintings and collages on panel.
From time to time I imagine returning to the homeland of my youth in the Weald of Kent or to Norfolk along the North Sea coast. These mini-acrylic paintings reflect those nostalgic moments in a slide show of nuanced color, inclemency, blustery beaches and mottled hills. All in all, a moody countryside.
Some of the images in this show, however, are drawn from here in the high central mountains of Colorado. The romance and magic of the Roaring Fork Valley have led me to forsake the ancient witch’s haunts and Norman churches, and it is here in this valley and the surrounding mountains that I continue the challenge of capturing mood and sense of place in my work.
I paint for pleasure. Landscape has always drawn the eye of the English painter whether the drama of Turner’s watercolors, the dark gestures of the contemporary John Virtue’s dramatic London scenes or efforts such as my own.
When not painting in my tiny studio I can be found exploring our local mountains and valleys with my husband Barry and our dog, Mango. I can also be found through roaringforkreflexology.com.
