Garden Music Series: "Let's Tango!"

“Let’s Tango!” celebrates the legacy of Heather Morrow, who rekindled the passion for Tango in the Valley. The program explores the intersection of music and dance, with choreography inspired and informed by traditional form of Tango, classical ballet, and modern dance.

It will be the same performance of “Let’s Tango” both Thursday and Friday evenings.

Doors at 5:30pm, show begins at 6:00pm.

Performers

Josefina Mendez, vocals

Josefina Mendez

Josefina Mendez started studying music and training her voice at the age of 15 in her home town of Buenos Aires. Even though her voice lessons were Italian Opera, her passion and practice was jazz. At the age of 18 she was the youngest person to perform with the Argentine National Jazz Orchestra. She moved to Aspen in 2001 and has been performing in the Roaring Fork Valley. The music performed by Josefina combines rhythms, melodies, and different performance traditions that surpass the boundaries between language and culture.

 

Michael Delalla, guitar

Michael Delalla

For more than 30 years as a composer and concert guitarist, Michael DeLalla has drawn on the musical traditions he has gathered worldwide. His extensive discography and concert appearances have drawn praise worldwide. After his studies with John Marlow in Washington DC, Michael joined the faculty at the Conservatory of Shenandoah University in Virginia, where he taught the ten years before coming to Colorado, where he’s made his home since. Michael also conducts workshops around the country based on his book The Mindful Guitarist (2015), where he explores his principles on the Creative Process through a range of topics for both guitarists and non-guitarists.

 

MinTze Wu, curator & violin

MinTze Wu

MinTze Wu is a violinist of many passions, and a visionary with illuminating artistry. A native of Taiwan and deeply rooted in the richness of classical music, MinTze embraces the word “BenFeng” (running with free spirit) as her way of exploring the world and the music. Expanding on the ideals of chamber music, MinTze interweaves words, movements, and other theatrical elements to create a compelling narrative and a multi-dimensional experience for performers and audiences alike. Infused with spirit, precision, and soulfulness, MinTze founded BenFeng Music Productions and played the role as producer and artistic director to several notable productions including Kreutzer, Beneath, Xu Zhimo & His Transfigured Night, and Death of the Pugilist.

 

Eric Thorin, bass

Eric Thorin

Eric Thorin is a highly regarded musician/bassist living on the front range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. He can be found on stage in The Matt Flinner Trio with Ross Martin, Danny Barnes and various touring luminaries such as Darol Anger, Bonnie Paine, Tony Furtado and more.

Eric remains active in the studio as producer and performer, has written hundreds of compositions as a member of The Matt Flinner Trio, orchestrated songs for Elephant Revival with the Colorado Symphony and Colorado Music Festival Orchestra and mixed, mastered and produced the debut recording release of Take Down the Door, Live in Lyons. Teaching is a big part of his presence in 2020 including The Crested Butte Music Festival, Spanish Peaks Celtic Festival, Grand Targhee Music Camp as well as serving as adjunct faculty in the newly formed Folk and Bluegrass program at the University of Northern Colorado.

 

Tim Fox, keyboard

Tim Fox

Tim Fox graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Music Education. He has played trumpet and/or piano in the Chicago area, around Colorado's Western Slope, and on the road, with the likes of "The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra," under the direction of Buddy Morrow, "The Temptations" and "The Four Tops," Eric Alexander, Ed Soph, Ernie Watts, Red Skelton, Barbara Eden, Connie Francis, Mitzi Gaynor, and with many more. He is currently a freelance musician, regularly collaborating with musicians from Denver to Grand Junction, a member of the Colorado Mesa University Faculty Jazz Quartet, and a member of the Josefina Mendez Jazz trio. Tim also facilitates, with the generous support of Jazz Aspen Snowmass, the Roaring Fork Jazz Workshop.
