What is the best part of being creative in Carbondale?

Carbondale, as a town, has created a conducive environment for artists and creative endeavors. There is support for new ideas and out of the box thinking. Because we are a small town what we do as artists doesn’t get lost in the crowd, so to speak. Carbondale Arts is a driving force behind this attitude and promotes the welfare of both the individual artist and the arts community as a whole. I love the interconnectedness that living in a small town helps create.

What motivates or inspires you and your work?

Deadlines. That is a tongue in cheek response but true. And of course the ubiquitous response nature. Both moving in nature as in a long walk and being still in nature. If I stop and really look at details of what is around me it is great inspiration for creation and exploration. Making something beautiful is important to me. I feel like beauty has a valuable role to play in this world.

Where can we see your work?

My work can be seen on jillscherart.com, at my studio in the Third Street Center in Carbondale, or at my booth at the Aspen Farmers Market June through mid October.

What projects are coming up?

I am currently working on pieces for an upcoming show at the Redbrick Art Center in Aspen. That show will be up for the month of June and end on July 8th.
