51st Mountain Fair

Artwork by Maggie Summers Tarbert.

It’s the exciting time of year when we get to release the winning artwork for the Mountain Fair t-shirt and design contest! For those of you who haven’t heard Our theme this year is “New Moon Magic”. The fair is July 29-31, which also coincides with the new moon on July 28th, as well as a new team of leaders who will oversee the fair. New means fresh and promising, our lives rising up in new ways, good energy and different ways of looking at things.

Meet the artist behind the design: Maggie Summers Tarbert

“The Roaring Fork Valley is a magnetic place. I grew up in Basalt, and found myself being drawn back to the valley after completing a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. I'm currently living in Carbondale with my husband Nick and son Zane, and I work at a super fun screen printing and embroidery (Live Loud T-Shirt Co).

The first thing that sparked my love of art at a very young age was watching Bob Ross on Saturday mornings. I'd try to paint along and replicate his style. Since then, I've explored a myriad of different styles and mediums, but the growing responsibilities of family life has left me painting less and less. I do get to use creativity at work, but it's just not the same as the energizing flow state I experience when creating art for myself. Wanting to dive back in, I figured the Mountain Fair design contest would be the perfect pretext to try and rekindle my love of art (without any expectation of actually winning). Hopefully I'll keep the momentum alive and keep making weird art.”
