Winning T-shirt Design for Mountain Fair

We're delighted to share the winning design for the 53rd Mountain Fair (happening July 26-28, 2024), created by local artist Kirsten Hix. Congrats Kirsten!⁠

Kirsten Hix has been living in Glenwood Springs with her husband Scott since 2013 and recently welcomed their son in 2021. Since 2019 she has completed four murals at Sunlight Mountain. She won the Basalt Public Arts Commission Mural Contest in 2023 and was selected to create a mural at the Basalt Pool, which was completed in May of 2024. She draws inspiration from the natural world and the beauty of the valley in which she lives. In addition to murals, she enjoys creating smaller painted works, including pet portraits for friends and family.⁠

Kirsten was born in Redlands, CA in 1988. She received a bachelor’s degree in art and Spanish in 2010 from Calvin College, in Grand Rapids, MI. Since then, in addition to her artistic pursuits, she obtained an associate’s degree in veterinary technology from Colorado Mountain College in 2016 and worked as a veterinary technician for several years, before choosing to return to her primary passion of creating artwork in the Roaring Fork Valley.
