Both Andrew and I made a decision to title individual pieces primarily after women who were important in mathematics and computer science.

Carbondale Arts presented "LOOM" which opened Friday, August 9, from 6-8pm at the R2 Gallery inside The Launchpad, located at 76 S. 4th Street in Carbondale.

"LOOM" explored the relationship between the weaving loom and the evolution of the modern computer. This two-person show was organized around collaborative pieces by mixed media artist Andrew Roberts-Gray and painter and textile artist Cate Tallmadge. The works investigated connections between woven geometry and painterly geometry, and highlighted the link between the binary coding in weaving and computing.

This exhibition opened the same evening as "Post-Frontier Landscapes", a solo show by Julia Crocetto. Both shows were on display at the R2 Gallery through September 6, 2019.

Painter & Textile Artist, Carbondale, CO

Cate Tallmadge works in a variety of media, but weaving is at her core as an artist. Geometry, color palate and a focus on craft are cohesive elements across both her functional and art pieces. Lately her work has focused on swaths of color painted directly onto the warp of each piece before the weaving begins. Born and raised on the Western Slope of the Rocky Mountains, she spent most of her formative years in idyllic Carbondale, Colorado. In the early 2000s the big city and art school beckoned. She moved to Chicago and enrolled at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating in 2006 with a BFA in Fiber and Material Studies.
