Century Link Approves Mural for Their Building

Carbondale Arts has teamed up with four local artists to design and paint a community mural reflecting the themes that the people of Carbondale feel are most important to them. The mural will be located on the east-facing side of the Century Link building on South 4th Street, at the corner of Main Street, downtown in the heart of Carbondale's Creative District.

Work will begin spring 2021. Artists Gayle Embrey, Brian Colley, Vanessa Porras and Steve Keohane have worked up a design based upon input gathered from a survey conducted in the spring in which 155 community members responded to questions. “We received many responses on what locals want to see in a mural that reflects the history, diversity, and landscape of the Roaring Fork Valley,” Gayle Embrey says, "It's exciting to be a part of this project, to work with skilled artists, to take the community's responses and create a vibrant design incorporating all of what they most want to see depicted on the wall of the CenturyLink building." Steve Keohane explains, "The design gives a context in time for the town of Carbondale. The project is an engaging creation that is fun to be a part of."

Brian Colley sums it up, " It feels really good to be able to give something back to Carbondale such as this mural, especially since our team based the design directly on ideas from community members. Not only has it been fulfilling to create something so playful and fun, it's also rewarding to present something that celebrates the people, history, and landscape of Carbondale. I'm hopeful the community will enjoy it for years to come. We want everyone to come paint with us or help out in other ways, so stay tuned for more information this spring.” Vanessa Porras sums it all up with,” Representation of the people and our town has been our center of focus throughout the entire process.
