Garden Music Series: "Chansons D'Amour"

The most enduring love story in Greek Mythology, Orpheus & Eurydice have inspired
generations of songs, lyrics, music, operas, and films. This program follows the contour of the
story, as we experience the beauty and the tragedy, the darkness and the illumination, through
music of Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Debussy, Schumann, Strauss, Jaques Brel and many more, spanning from the Renaissance to Contemporary.

This program will be at Community Hall in the Third Street Center. Doors at 5:30, show begins at 6:00pm. Feel free to bring light snacks and refreshments.

 

Performers

Amanda Balestrieri, soprano

Amanda Balestrieri

English soprano Amanda Balestrieri received her BA/MA from Oxford University and studied voice in London and Milan. She appeared on the soundtrack of the movie Amadeus and has been a featured soloist with symphonies and major period instrument ensembles throughout the U.S., including the National Symphony, Smithsonian Chamber Players, New York Collegium, Concert Royal and New York Baroque Dance Company, Opera Lafayette, Washington Bach Consort, American Bach Soloists, the Colorado, Cheyenne, and Fort Collins symphonies, and Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado. Balestrieri is Artistic Director of Seicento Baroque Ensemble and the chamber ensemble Cadmus, and has recorded with the Dorian, Koch, and Virginia Arts labels.

 

Cody Laun, tenor

Cody Laun

Dr. Cody Laun is a native of the Denver-metro region, where he is in high demand as a soloist, and also participates in several chamber music ensembles throughout the area, including Colorado Bach Ensemble and Anima Chamber Ensemble. He has been seen regionally with various other arts organizations, such as Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera Mississippi, Mobile Opera, The Muses Creative Artistry Project, and Opera Colorado, among others. His competition credits include the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (regional finalist), and NATSAA (national semi finalist). This coming season includes appearances with Colorado Christian University (Bach’s Magnificat), and Boulder Opera (Manon).

 

MinTze Wu, curator & violin

MinTze Wu

MinTze Wu is a violinist of many passions, and a visionary with illuminating artistry. A native of Taiwan and deeply rooted in the richness of classical music, MinTze embraces the word “BenFeng” (running with free spirit) as her way of exploring the world and the music. Expanding on the ideals of chamber music, MinTze interweaves words, movements, and other theatrical elements to create a compelling narrative and a multi-dimensional experience for performers and audiences alike. Infused with spirit, precision, and soulfulness, MinTze founded BenFeng Music Productions and played the role as producer and artistic director to several notable productions including Kreutzer, Beneath, Xu Zhimo & His Transfigured Night, and Death of the Pugilist.

 

Sarah Graf, cello

Sarah Graf

Cellist Sarah Graf is an avid chamber musician, soloist, and teacher. Since moving to Colorado in 2007, Sarah has performed extensively in concerts across the state on both modern and baroque cello. She earned degrees from the Eastman School of Music, studying with Alan Harris and Steven Doane with focus on performing with the new music ensembles and the Collegium Musicum. Sarah has attended festivals including the Freiburg Baroque Academie, National Orchestral Institute, and Aspen Music Festival. Sarah has performed in the Colorado Bach Ensemble, as principal cellist of the Aspen Choral Society and the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, and as a soloist with the High Country Sinfonia. As a teacher Sarah has a private studio and coaches students of the Roaring Fork Youth Orchestra, of which she is also Executive Director.

 

Terry Lee, piano

Terry Lee

Terry Lee has performed in the Roaring Fork Valley as a soloist and accompanist since moving here in 1980.  Most recently she has accompanied the Aspen Choral Society and performed in “Musica Universalis.”  Lee retired after 19 years as the Director of Development at Colorado Rocky Mountain School where she also co-directed many of the school's musicals.   She has music directed many shows for Theatre Aspen School, Thunder River Theatre Company, and Sopris Theatre.  Lee holds B. Mus. and M. Mus. degrees in piano performance from the University of the Pacific.  Besides music, Lee is a fiber artist and an active member of The Art Quilt Association.  Thanks to my talented colleagues who bring such wonderful creative energy to the valley.
