Mural arts are a powerful way to express our identity, tell our stories and increase the vibrancy and vitality of our community. The Carbondale Walls mural program activates civic spaces by engaging the local community, artists and organizations to collaboratively create .
How it Works:
Murals are creative democracy in action! The best projects engage with and respond to the community and empower artists to be visionary and help us visualize our shared experiences. With this in mind we follow a framework that engages the appropriate partner at each stage of the process.
Call for Walls:
Good mural walls are in high-visibility locations, and are in good shape with a willing owner.
Walls submitted before March 31st will be considered for a mural in that calendar year.
If you or your organization knows of a wall that you think would be a good fit, let us know below or drop us a line.
Mural Partners:
The best murals bring the community together. As part of our process we put together a collaborative project team to help guide the mural process. This includes Carbondale Arts staff, building owner or representatives as well as community experts. This team helps to guide the process for each mural.
If you are a community organization and interested in being involved in a mural project, or a funder who wants to see more murals in town, let us know!
Call for Muralists:
Once we have a site selected for a mural, we issue a call for muralists with the project details, timeline, design process and artist stipend. Artists who are interested in being considered are encouraged to apply. We also use our Creative Directory to identify local artists who are qualified and reach out to them directly.
Current and open mural calls will be posted here when they are available.
